Selection of the Weak

“The S.S officers were doing the selection the weak, to the left those who walked well, to the right. My father was sent to the left.” Night p.96

I think that it was surprising that Elie went to go with his dad to the death camp line. I know that he wanted to stay  with his father but he didn't have to go to the death camp. To me, Elie was a brave person to choose to go to the death camp line to be with his father. I think that Elie was good for staying with father to the very end until his father couldn't go no more and gave up and died. Another thing is that he is a good son because he could  have went somewhere else but he went to death camp to stay  with his father and try to survive and get through with each other.
This reminds me of this kid called Moskowich in a movie called The Pianist. Moskowich was sent to death camp because he didn't look sixteen but tried to stay with his friends to survive the war. This would fall under theme of loss because that little boy was killed and his friends didn't never see him again because they gas him. One thing is that Moskowich did try to survive with his friend but it did not work out at all. Also Moskowich was too small to look sixteen and his friend was trying their best to get to stay with him.

  2. I agree with what you said about Elie. He was very brave about the whole situation he was in considering he was only fifteen when he was sent to Auschwitz. What would we have done if we were sent to Auschwitz? I don't think we would have acted the same way Elie did. You could tell that Elie loved his father very much. He wanted to go through this with his father. People today are selfish and wouldn't have done what Elie did for his father. Who would acutally choose to go to a death camp? For being courageous Elie was rewarded. He was someone who ended up surviving the Holocaust. It was his bravery and courage that got him through. He never gave up even when he was weak.

  3. Although I agree with you about how Elie was extremely brave and courageous, this part of the story did not surprise me by that fact that he went with his father in the other line. His father was the only family he had left and it was obvious he would be willing to do anything to stay with him. I can't even imagine what this must have felt like for Elie. Nothing in my life could not even compare to how torn 15 year old Elie was between being with his father and his own life. That should be something no child should ever have to go through.

  4. I agree with how Ellie was brave for sacrificing himself to be with his father. Not many kids would do that. Also, he might have gotten in trouble for doing that. From that action you can probably assume Ellie was hopeful he might find a way to survive, and his father too. Although, I think it wasn't right for his dad to give up hope when his son had so much. Ellie might have lost faith too. If I was in Ellie's place I don't think I'd be able to keep my head up, but knowing without my mom I would be lost, I would follow her to the death line too. What was the reason Ellie's dad lost hope? Or was he just tired of waiting?
